How is BRAVIA™ Different?
BRAVIA™ brings three key advances to LCD televisions: larger color gamut, higher refresh rates, and televisions that automatically adjust to ambient light conditions. Sony’s Wide Color Cold Compact Florescent Light (WCG-CCFL) displays a color gamut almost 30% larger than a conventional CCFL display. The larger color gamut allows BRAVIA™ televisions to reproduce more faithfully the colors of real life using new spectrum phosphors to achieve deeper reds, more vivid greens, and cleaner blues. BRAVIA™ TVs using WCG-CCFL in concert with HDTV standards display an image that is far closer to what your eye would normally expect to see.

The diagram below demonstrates how, by increasing in the number of segments per sub-pixel from one to two, and increasing speed of refresh rate accordingly, picture quality can be achieved that can entirely eliminate flicker and bring the viewing experience to a whole new level.

WCG-CCFL (Wide Color Gamut-Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light):
Sony brings decades of television expertise and experience to LCD with a revolutionary backlight -- WCG-CCFL. New spectrum phosphors have been developed exclusively by Sony to deliver a very wide color Gamut that exceeds the color Gamut of ordinary CCFL backlights and produces true reds, vivid greens and vibrant blues. Images are reproduced with enhanced vibrancy and intensity resulting in an even greater sense of realism.

Sony BRAVIA S-Series
Like the BRAVIA™ XBR® Group, the Sony BRAVIA™ S-Series uses the world’s first 7th generation Sony LCD panel. Specially crafted at the S-LCD plant, these panels are produced from the world’s biggest mother glass to efficiently create large, high quality panels. The 1 Mega Pixel HD Display (1366 x 768) that is used offers an astounding 178 degree Viewing Angle, very fast response times (8 ms total rise and fall time) and a spectacular Contrast Ratio.

BRAVIA™ S-Series LCD televisions use a full-Digital, 1-chip video processor for crisp and clear images. Several unique picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations and details, enhance Contrast, dynamically improve color, and reduce image Flicker.

BRAVIA™ S-Series LCD televisions also offer the WEGA GATE user guide. You can easily change your settings or access your favorite TV channels by simply touching the WEGA GATE button on the Remote Control to activate the comprehensive graphic menu.

Light Sensor
Within every BRAVIA™ S-Series LCD television is an intelligent light sensor that adjusts the screen Brightness to match the ambient light in a room. The benefit to you is that the sensor makes your viewing experience more comfortable. In a dim room, for example, the screen automatically reduces Brightness. This "intelligent" adjustment results in a more satisfying television viewing experience.

Freeze Function
Sony’s Freeze Function allows you to freeze one screen while the other screen continues showing the program. Whether it’s the winning play, or a phone number that flashes too quickly across your screen, you can freeze it, and still keep up with what you’re watching. Simply touch the "Freeze" button on the Remote Control. It’s that simple.

TruSurround delivers a full and immersive Virtual Surround Sound experience from any twospeaker playback system using any multi-channel audio source. Six discrete channels of Digital audio are processed into just two channels and delivered over two speakers. BRAVIA™ S-Series LCD televisions give you a completely immersive experience, and the sensory perception that you are surrounded by additional speakers.
