Amazon.com Product Description
It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner, and Sony's Digital Reality Creation MultiFunction feature upconverts the analog NTSC signals to near-HD quality, though you'll need a separate HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. The KV-32HS510 set has a native 1386 x 788 pixel resolution and is compatible with the 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i formats. The KF-50WE610's Sony WEGA engine delivers superb picture quality from any video source by minimizing the signal deterioration caused by digital-to-analog conversion and stabilizing the signal processing. The Digital Reality Creation Multifunction V1 line doubler replaces the NTSC wave form with the near-HD equivalent by digital mapping processing. Enhanced Direct Digital II circuitry increases signal-to-noise ratio when converting the signal from analog to digital. And the Multi-Image Driver maintains the integrity of a converted signal by minimizing image loss in the scaling process, providing the unique Twin-View picture-and-picture feature. This set also features Sony's original Optical Engine, which provides a high-resolution picture from corner to corner across the entire screen. It uses a 100-watt UHP (Ultra High Pressure) lamp, which renders an image with high brightness and can be replaced easily. You can view JPEG images captured from Sony digital cameras and camcorders using the built-in Memory Stick slot. Choose from an index of the images stored on the Memory Stick, or you can run a slideshow of those images. The KF50WE610 has two built-in 15-watt speakers on the side that produce TruSurround SRS audio. Two component-video inputs (both at the rear) allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or another source with component video outputs. It also has a DVI input (rear), analog audio output (rear), 3 A/V inputs (2 front, 1 rear), 3 S-video inputs (2 front, 1 rear), and 1 each of S-Link output and input (for connecting other Sony components). Great Picture with HD but stopped working after two weeks The picture quality with HD broadcasts was superb. Quality for SD DirecTV broadcasts was only fair to poor. Some channels appeared muddy or out-of focus with an overall smudgy appearance. Even the best SD channels were worse than my old 50 inch Pioneer rear projection TV which never failed to turn on in ten years. This was actually the second tv that I received. The first came with several cracks running through the screen image and a heavily dented chassis. The manufacture date for my set is December 2003. The problem with the buzz comes from the television's very expensive (two hundred fifty) halogen lamp. The lamp is either no good or something in the television's circuitry is causing them to burn out prematurely. Sony rates them to work for approximately 1 year of average viewing. In searching the internet I have found dozens of complaints similar to mine. Some people report exchanging one tv only to have its replacemnt develop the same problem. There was even one who had three televsions develop this problem. I have seen posts that claim that Sony is aware of this problem and has taken steps to correct it with recently manufactured televsions not having the problem. In a way a problem that presents immediately is better than a problem that appears after several months when the only option left is to be at the mercy of Sony's guarantee and face several weeks of waiting for in-home repair visits. I present this review as a warning to others so that they can avoid this painful experience.
