Customer Reviews
Excellent value with many hookup options
Great system for a great price at $339. Speakers produce great sound and the add-on (SWA-3000) for wireless rear speakers round it out. The reason I bought this system was for a 2nd home theater in our bonus room, where I was trying to save money by getting a HTIB rather than spending lots of $ on separate components and speakers. The thing I had trouble finding was something that would handle multiple digital inputs/outputs ... this system fit the bill without spending a fortune.
Opposed to one of the other comments on this system, it DOES upconvert to 1080i nicely...I've seen better upconvert DVD players, but not in a HTIB.
Very happy and satisfied with purchase...only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the documentation; it's not terrible but it's too high-level for someone who know their way around an A/V setup ... would have given it a 4.5 if possible.
My Configuration: Toshiba 42" LCD 1080p (42HL167); DishNetwork HD/DVR Satellite Rec'r (Vip622); Samsung HTIB (HT-TX72); Xbox360; Xbox; iPod dock.
It's okay, but nothing special.
I recently purchased this system when it's price was sub $300 and I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it.
The system kicks out a MAJOR PUNCH in the sound department, with deep bass that will rumble the room thanks to it's HUGE subwoofer. It's as big as a PC tower case and blasts!
Sadly, you have to have it blast if you want to hear anything. There are few controls for the sound levels and trying to listen as low volumes was worse audio quality than listening to the TV with it's built in speakers.
The system is either too quiet to hear anything but voices, or too loud to hear anything other than boom.
Also, when in stereo mode, the back speakers shut off. There is one option that will do stereo with them on (Matrix Mode) but it tries to separate sounds and ends up with the speakers just making some noises sometimes and is a bit disconcerting.
The upconverting DVD player looks pretty poor on a high def television. There also is no difference with upscale from 480p to 1080i, it's just as blocky. If you've not seen a better upscaler (as found in the PS3 for example) then it might look okay, albeit blocky, but if you have seen a better one you won't be able to watch DVD's on your HDTV with this without feeling as if you're missing something.
Lastly... the fan. After a while a fan inside the receiver will kick in. This thing is LOUD. That shouldn't happen on a sound system - having something that makes listening to things worse.
Overall, I'm very dissapointed in this product and suggest you look elsewhere for a home theater system. I'm considering returning this item and wished I'd read a review like this first, so I'd know to stay away.
Awesome!
I got this HTS together with the SW-3000 wireless module for the rear speakers and was a perfect fit for my needs.
I got it installed in about an hour and delivers an awesome sound. I used two HDMI cables between my Samsung 46" LCD and the satellite receiver. I have a PS2 connected to it using the Aux inputs, too. I didn't experience ANY technical problem playing all types of DVDs and CDs (and hope I won't).
I'm sure there are way better (and expensiver!) systems in the market but, again, this was a perfect fit for me... I couldn't ask for more.
I saw Transformers and Spider Man III a few days ago and Dolby 5.1 makes you jump from the couch!!! Put an old Pavarotti DVD (surround mode) the other day and the power and sound quality just made me cry...
I highly recommend the wireless system for the rear speakers; for an extra 100 bucks you will avoid the hassle of cabling. My family room connects with the kitchen so I put the rear speakers over the upper cabinets... and it was a perfect lay out (measures) to get the best sound.
I also recommend you make some research on sound systems (dolby, dolby 5.1, 7.1, etc..., get your room measures, and check for speakers lay out recommendations before you buy anything. It's all in the web.
Summary: Awesome out-the-box Home Theather System!!! I couldn't be happier!!!
