Pioneer HTP 2900 5.1 Home Entertainment System
I should have known that any home entertainment system that sells for under $300 would be a mistake, but cheapo me bought it any way. When I heard the system, I was really disappointed. First of all, the woofer, which was extraordinarily light, i.e., not much mass, i.e., cheap feeling, had virtually no bass response, at least not what I had expected. Secondly, the only connection points on the back of the tuner/amp were those for the speaker wires, one set of audio in and video in and the antenna connectors.
I wound up doing what I should have done in the first place - purchased a good tuner/amp (it cost what the entire Pioneer system cost) and some Klipsch home entertainment speakers, the Quintet III set and a 10" sub woofer. Now I hear the same kind of sound that I hear in my local movie theater. Incredible highs and mid ranges and timber rattling bass. As far as sound goes, it's all in the speakers. A good set of speakers are not cheap, but then, neither is the sound they produce. A tuner/amp with sufficient connection ports on the back is also a must.
