From the Manufacturer
For the audio novice who seeks high quality sound right out of the box, Pioneer introduces the HTP-2900 surround sound system for great audio with a minimalist feel. This all black unit features an A/V receiver that powers a 5.1 channel speaker system for high performance in a compact arrangement.

HTP-2900: Small in Size, Big on Power

The HTP-2900 takes advantage of Pioneer’s superior audio engineering to produce powerful surround sound using small speakers that easily fit into even small rooms. The system’s component style A/V receiver delivers accurate, realistic surround sound for a myriad of connected sources via three digital inputs (2 coaxial/1 optical) and three audio inputs. It features a front mini jack for connectivity to a portable music receiver. Developed with ease-of-use in mind, the HTP-2900 offers Pioneer’s quick Room Set-Up. Whether playing a video game, watching an action flick or listening to a personalized playlist, users can select among nine advanced surround modes for a truly unique entertainment experience every time they turn the system on.

Enjoy Music in Pristine Clarity

What were once only enjoyed in the car or on the run, satellite radio and portable music players are finding their way into the home by consumers who want to enjoy their playlist in full surround sound. Rather than listen through small ear buds, many of today’s home theater systems offer connectivity or playback ability of the compressed audio files found in the players and on satellite radio. To compensate for the audio data often removed from these digital files, Pioneer employs its proprietary Sound Retriever digital sound processing technology. Sound Retriever improves the sound playback of audio files to near CD quality, allowing music fans to enjoy dynamic audio quality.

A built-in 6-channel amplifier yields 860 watts total of Continuous Power Output (FTC). A new Freescale 180MIPS Processing DSP, 192 kHz/24-bit DAC, and built-in DTS® 96/24/Dolby® Digital/Dolby® Pro Logic II decoders mean a supremely satisfying listening experience right out of the box.

Customer Reviews

Pretty darn good4
This was my first surround sound purchase, so I can only compare to TV speaker sound. Anyway, it sounds great, I never realized how much 5.1 can draw you into a movie or game. It has 3 digital inputs (which I found rare for this price range)1 fiber and 2 coax. I can crank it up loud enough to be almost uncomfortable with no distortion. Bass is real nice. Also, it has a radio tuner which I liked.

2 minor issues: The receiver is huge, alot bigger than it looked in the pictures in my opinion. Second, the documentation is lacking. Looking at the remote there are a whole bunch of features and options this thing has that aren't explained well or even mentioned in the manual.

All in all, a great purchase, considering this is one of the cheapest home theaters in a box you can get. I would definetley buy Pioneer again.

The perfect mid-level Home Theater System5
I needed a home theater system that didn't have a DVD player (I mean who doesn't have one already) and would nicely complement my Pioneer Plasma TV. Surprisingly enough Pioneer actually had an affordable model because it dropped out the DVD / CD player and the price ended up being only 200 dollars. It's a great deal and I can't say how happy I am with the product. It's all it claims to be and set-up was a snap. It's easy to use, good looking and really matches nicely to the Pioneer TVs- HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. Great entry-mid level system.

powerful, affordable, crisp sound5
This little box was a snap to setup. The speakers fit nicely with any room decor and the sound is, well, CLEAN. It took me less than 15 minutes to have the components plugged in and speakers wired and ready for action. The front audio jack and included mini to mini cable allowed me to test the system with my iPod before plugging in the other units.

The optical in is a must and this system has it. The dB display is a little weird as it counts down from 0, but it could be a user error configuration thing. I have yet to crack the manual and have already blasted out the neighbors twice.

I am glad my room is as large as it is, any smaller and the unit may have knocked down the walls. Pioneer has hit a home run with this years Plasma models, and followed it up with a game winning walk-off with this system.

I am looking forward to the race on Saturday where I can put myself on pit road. It's hard to believe I paid $215 out the door including shipping directly from Pioneer for this unit.

You will not be disappointed!
